This preparatory drawing for the Caprice no. 12, Hunting for Teeth is on the verso of the folio, while the sketch for the Caprice no. 75, Is there no one to untie us?
The fundamental differences between this work and the print are that, in the drawing, the woman perched on the wall covers her face with her hand, while in the engraving she also uses a handkerchief. In the sketch there is a slight outline of the gallows, which is lost in the engraving to give way to a landscape with a river running through it.
The drawing is ostensibly clearer than the engraving, and it even seems that, while in the drawing the action is taking place during the day, in the engraving the events could be taking place at night.
