D. Antonio Porcel por su amigo Goya 1806 ("Don Antonio Porcel by his friend Goya, 1806", upper left-hand corner).
This work belonged to the Buenos Aires Jockey Club, where it was destroyed in the fire that took place at the club's headquarters in 1953.
Antonio Porcel was the husband of Isabel Lobo de Porcel, whom Goya also painted.
The subject is shown sitting with his legs crossed and turning slightly to the right. With his right hand he is stroking his dog's head, as the animal looks up to its master. In his left hand he holds a shotgun. His shirt is visible beneath his open dress coat. The sitter's heavily-built figure stands out clearly against the dark background. This work employs all of the iconography typical of the hunting portrait.
