Historia

This work belonged to the collection of Javier Goya, later forming part of that of his son, Mariano Goya; that of the Marchioness of Salamanca, in Madrid; the Bischoffsheim collection; that of Mme Francis de Croisset; and that of the Countess of Noailles, Paris, before arriving at its current location.

Análisis artístico

Gumersinda Goicoechea was the wife of Javier Goya, Francisco de Goya's son.

Here we see Gumersinda standing in a full-length portrait in front of a dark background, which makes her stand out more.

She is wearing a long dress and her head is covered by a see-through lace mantilla which reaches down almost to her feet. In her left hand she holds a glove that hangs down by her side, whilst the matching glove is on her right hand, with which she is holding her arm at the height of her chest along with a closed fan.

At her feet, a small white dog rests on the woman's skirt with his two front legs. She is wearing pearl grey shoes.
