This drawing, along with the set of preparatory drawings for the rest of the prints in this series, formed part of the Carderera Collection and was subsequently acquired by the Prado Museum where it is currently housed.
This preparatory drawing for The Same Elsewhere shows some important differences from the final print. In this work the painter concentrates on the figures in the centre of the composition, marking a distinct diagonal line, while in the print the figures are distributed along a more horizontal line.
The most striking figure in the drawing is the man who has just been shot from behind while fleeing the scene. This figure is carrying a sword in his hand, his face expressing a gesture of pain that, together with the violent posture of his body, suggest that he is about to fall to the ground. In the print this figure has become the corpse stretched out on the right-hand side of the work. In the drawing, the upper right-hand corner is also very light coloured, while in the print this area is almost black.
The folds in the drawing indicate that it was passed through the press.
