Historia
This work forms a pair with another sketch showing the opposite side of the cupola (rec. no. ?). Both were catalogued by Mayer in 1925. In 1962 they were sold by Sotheby's auction house. Their last known location is in the H. Oppenheimer collection in Johannesburg.
There is a replica of this work in the Lázaro Galdiano Museum (2521) attributed to Goya's assistant, Asensio Juliá.
Análisis artístico
The sketch depicts a group of mainly female figures.
A tree stands out in the background which also appears in the surroundings depicted in the paintings of the cupola. The cloth which hangs on the balustrade in the fresco is also shown in this study.
