Landscape with Buildings and Trees (Paisaje con edificios y árboles)
This work belonged to Javier Goya and then to his son, Mariano Goya. It later entered the Valentín Carderera Collection before finally reaching the Prado Museum.
At the top we can clearly see some black stains which may be the result of it having been passed through the press used to transfer the drawing to the copperplate.
In this preparatory drawing for the etching Landscape with Cliff, Buildings and Trees, we can see a footbridge in the distance, which was removed from the final print so as not to break up the horizon. Goya may also have removed this element in order to increase the depth of the sky and concentrate all of the viewer's attention on the solid mass of rock. This shape has a considerable presence in both the drawing and the subsequent print.
