This drawing, along with the set of preparatory drawings for the rest of this series, formed part of the Carderera Collection and subsequently part of the Prado Museum, where it is currently housed.
Goya has worked carefully on the left-hand side of this preparatory drawing while the right-hand side is executed in a more perfunctory manner. In fact, the painter is more faithful to this right-hand side of the preparatory sketch in the final print.
Similarly, the drawing does not feature the archway depicted in the final piece. Its inclusion is probably designed to generate two spaces: on one side are the starving people who are being helped, while on the other are the two entirely shrouded figures.
