This drawing, along with the set of preparatory drawing for the rest of the prints in this series, formed part of the Carderera Collection and was subsequently acquired by the Prado Museum where it is currently housed.
In print no. 44, I saw it (Yo lo vi), Goya depicts a scene of people fleeing. The preparatory drawing is quite precise, and shows that the artist made few changes to the composition in the final print. The only modifications carried out to the design were to small details that do not affect the contents of the work, such as the bundle carried by the priest fleeing on the left of the painting, which in the print has been replaced by a bag full of coins. The artist also decided to include the trees on the left of the print, which do not appear in the drawing.
