It is not known whether this is a sketch Goya made for one of the angels or a small-scale copy of the fresco.
Little is known of its provenance, except that its last known location is he David Weill collection in Paris.
This sketch is a clear reflection of the final piece.
It shows one of the female angels located in the north-eastern vault, in the arm of the transept on the gospel side of the church. It shows the figure located on one of the far sides of the vault who is gazing upwards.
The sketch is executed with swift marks to denote the staining of light and shade in the fresco itself.
The setting is a yellow ground executed with violent brushstrokes reminiscent of the curtains in the original painting, decorated with yellow damask and the royal coat of arms.
Above the angel is a sketched putto whose arms are buried in the curtains in the background.
