This work came from the collections of Mr. Ivan Stchoukina of Paris, Ignacio Zuloaga, V. de Galoubew and Fouchier-Magnon. It was auctioned at Sotheby's of London on the 4th December 1935.
This sketch depicts the architect Ventura Rodríguez showing a plan to the infante. The two men are in an outdoor setting and off to one side we can see a tombstone, completing the composition. The work is loosely painted but with fine brushstrokes.
Sambricio attributes this work, a preliminary study for a larger format painting, to Francisco Bayeu, whilst Gassier-Wilson pointed out the similarity of the composition to that of the Portrait of Floridablanca in the Bank of Spain.
