See Sad presentiments of what must come to pass (Tristes presentimientos de lo que ha de acontecer).
This drawing, along with the set of preparatory drawing for the rest of the prints in this series, formed part of the Carderera Collection and was subsequently acquired by the Prado Museum where it is currently housed.
There are few substantial differences between print no. 62, The beds of death (Las camas de la muerte) and its corresponding preparatory drawing.
The painter seemed to be clear that he wanted to highlight the corpses covered with sheets and the woman dressed from head to foot who passes by the bodies, covering her nose. The rest of the scene is left in shadows. In the final print the artist makes extensive use of aquatint to intensify the effects sketched out in the drawing.
