Historia

See How the ancient Spaniards hunted bulls on horseback in the countryside

Three copies of a state proof made before the aquatint was applied have been preserved: one from the Carderera collection, one from the Galinchon collection and one from a private collection in Paris.

The plate is preserved in the Calcografía Nacional, with Dogs at the bull (Bullfighting C) engraved on the reverse.

Análisis artístico

See How the ancient Spaniards hunted bulls on horseback in the countryside

The print is part of the subgroup, within the group of "historical" scenes of bullfighting (Nos. 1-11), dedicated to the bullfighting of the Moors (Nos. 3-8 and 17). It depicts a Moor executing the luck known in Goya's time as " Aragonese" or " backwards", as in Another one locked up. The Moor, facing the viewer, quotes the bull, who stands in profile in an attitude of charging and in a position that denotes an accurate study of the natural. Behind the main figure is a second Moor in a static position, and in the background, in the semi-darkness, two other figures are barely sketched on the edge of the bullring. The play of light and shadow and the tonal gradations achieved with the burnisher stand out in the print.

The preparatory drawing for the present print, also entitled The Moors are doing another bullfight in the square with their dressing gowns, has been preserved.
