Historia
Supposed sketch for the tapestry cartoon Boys Playing at Soldiers.
This work was published for the first time by Desparmet Fitz-Gerald, and since then it has been included in many of the catalogues of works by Goya, albeit sometimes with reservations.
In 1878 it went under the hammer at the Hôtel Drouot auction house, in Paris, when it belonged to Zacarías Astruc. It came to form part of the Yandurri collection in Seville and later went to a private collection in Barcelona.
Análisis artístico
The composition is almost identical to that of the finished work. The only difference that can be seen is in the brushstrokes in this work, which are made up of less well-defined touches, in keeping with the characteristics of a sketch.
