A Dog (Un perro)
The Dog (El perro)
SeeLeocadia.
This work was located on the right of the door leading to the room. It shows a dog's head set in a landscape similar to the others painted in the room.
The background is a large patch of colour that seems to represent a bleak empty space, although the deterioration of the painting may well have led to the loss of some figurative elements, a fact that makes it difficult to provide a clear interpretation of the scene. By any account, this is a very enigmatic work.
The dog is looking upwards at someone or something outside of the composition. The discovery of a photographic negative taken by Laurent allowed Arnaiz to confirm that the dog is looking at two birds flying in the sky which had disappeared from the painting when it was transferred from the wall to canvas.
The artist has skilfully rendered the dog with just a few brushstrokes, standing out from the rest of the painting.
