Historia
This work, along with the others in the series, belonged to the collection of the Duke and Duchess of Aveyro, in Madrid. Its current whereabouts are unknown.
Análisis artístico
This painting represents the most dramatic moment in the famous story of the sacrifice of Isaac. Just as Abraham is about to slay his own son, just as God has commanded, an angel appears, sent by God, to stop him and to tell him to sacrifice a ram instead of his child (Genesis 22:10-13).
For the artistic commentary on the series as a whole, see Moses and the Brazen Serpent.
