Historia

This work was donated to the museum by Fernando de Aragón y Carrillo de Albornoz, Marquis of Casa Torres, in 1975, but did not enter the collection of the Prado until the donor's death, in 1984.

Análisis artístico

The full-length portraits shows the count standing, looking straight out at the viewer and giving the impression that he is advancing towards us, with his left leg slightly forward. Behind him, the greenish-coloured drapery is drawn back to reveal a golden panelled wall, dramatically lit for effect. He is dressed formally, with turquoise dress coat, waistcoat, and breeches, with silver decorations. On his chest are the insignia and the original sash of the Order of Charles III. In his right hand he holds a piece of paper with the inscription cited above, whilst in his other hand he holds another, folded, paper. His face is especially serious and inexpressive.
