Historia
This sketch came to light when it entered into the collection at the museum where it is currently housed. It is normally paired with the sketch for Washerwomen due to the similar dimensions of the two works and because they both came to form part of the Reinhart collection at the same time, despite the different dates of the cartoons to which they presumably make reference.
There does not exist any consensus regarding the authorship of the work.
Análisis artístico
The composition of this sketch is practically the same as that of the finished work, except for a pair of distant figures on the right-hand side of the study who do not appear in the cartoon.
