Historia

See Young woman with forehead wearing a small hat.

Line of provenance (common to drawings A.g, A.h, A.i and A.j): Javier Goya, Mariano Goya. Around 1855-1860 it was in the hands of Federico de Madrazo and/or Román Garreta. Acquired for the Trinity Museum in Madrid by Royal Order of 5 April 1866 and incorporated into the Prado Museum in 1872.

Análisis artístico

See Young woman with forehead wearing a small hat corresponding to the first drawing in the Sanlúcar Album or Album A. Standing woman dressed in black, with figures in the background subtly drawin to create an effect of depth.

Of particular note is the softness of her veiled gaze beneath a delicate mantilla, an effect that is found again in Caprice 5 (Such and Such) and Caprice 15 (Beautiful Advice). It was suggested that this drawing represented the Duchess of Alba, dressed in mourning for the recent death of her husband the Duke, linking it to her portrait dressed in black in the Hispanic Society of America (María del Pilar Teresa Cayetana de Silva Álvarez de Toledo, 13th Duchess of Alba), but the truth is that it is a female type in "walking dress" quite common in Album A, considered a contemporary of A.

On the front of the sheet is the drawing The Nap
