Historia
See Maja and Celestina.
This piece came from the collection of Juan Bautista Muguiro, one of Goya's friends in Bordeaux. It was published by Xavier de Salas. Today it is in a private collection.
Análisis artístico
For the artistic and technical analysis of the complete series, see Maja and Celestina.
The man shown here is resting his head on his hands, which are held close together, one on top of the other. He has a pale complexion and blond hair. The expression on his face is one of genuine panic, with his eyes opened wide.
Rita de Angelis is of the opinion that the miniature that Sayre includes in her catalogue as number 16, A Prisoner on the Ground with his Hands Bound, without any reproduction, is this same work.
