Historia

Goya made seven miniature portraits, all on sheets of copper and with a circular format, for the wedding of his son, Francisco Javier, to Gumersinda Goicoechea, which took place on 5 July 1805. As well as the portrait of his son, he made ones of the parents of the bride, the bride herself, and each of her three sisters, including Cesárea Goicoechea.

Análisis artístico

Cesárea Goicoechea was the youngest daughter of Martín Miguel Goicoechea and Juana Galarza, both also painted by Goya, and she was twelve years old when this portrait was made. Just like her sisters, she is wearing a lace hat in the French style, with yellow ribbons, and a blue gauze dress with a fairly low neckline.

Her face, shown in profile, displays a certain happiness, unlike those of her sisters, all of whom appear somewhat sad and melancholy.
