Line of provenance (common to drawings A.g, A.h, A.i and A.j): Javier Goya, Mariano Goya. Around 1855-1860 it was in the hands of Federico de Madrazo and/or Román Garreta. Acquired for the Museo de la Trinidad in Madrid by Royal Order of 5 April 1866 and incorporated into the Parado Museum in 1872.
See Young woman with forehead wearing a small hat.
A young woman with her back turned, dressed in a light camisole, raises her arms to greet someone or as a gesture of joy at the promise of a new day. In front of her, a dark spot rises up against the whiteness of the paper and seems to represent a balcony or wall. This is the first of the rectangular backgrounds that Goya would use recurrently in the Madrid Album or Album B.
Once again Goya depicts a scene of intimacy so typical of this Sanlúcar Album.
Gassier notes that the girl's body, which is slightly downturned, is solidly planted on her legs, as well as possessing a youthful grace that Goya has managed to transcribe through a few nervous brushstrokes that point out the essentials.
On the back of the sheet is the drawing Young Woman Stretching Her Stocking.
