Historia
See Maja and Celestina.
This piece came from the collection of Juan Bautista Muguiro, one of Goya's friends in Bordeaux. It was published by Xavier de Salas. Today it is in a private collection.
Análisis artístico
For the artistic and technical analysis of the complete series, see Maja and Celestina.
An old woman with long white hair is shown talking to a rosy-cheeked blond boy. Going by the smile on the boy's face, the conversation seems to be an amusing one. Although the subject matter is cheerful, the boy's features are exaggerated and his smile comes across as somewhat grotesque. The old woman has more delicate features, even though they are still executed using broad brushstrokes.
