This particular canvas was acquired by Hans von Tschudi for Munich's Alte Pinakothek in 1909.

Análisis artístico

In the centre of this still life, Goya has placed a plucked turkey, arranged along a diagonal line and with its head resting on the same horizontal surface that holds a frying pan full of sardines. In this case, the neutral background plays a less prominent role than in the rest of the still lifes in the series, since here the objects are covering most of the surface of the painting.

The diagonal arrangement of the turkey in Goya's painting could draw comparisons to the hare, also arranged diagonally, in the painting by Bartolomé Montalvo (Segovia, 1769-Madrid, 1846) entitled Hunting Still Life (Naturaleza muerta de caza) (Prado Museum, Madrid).
